Unlike other garden centers, our long-standing relationship with our growers allows us to bring you fresh plants deep into the fall.
Why plant in the fall?
While the gardening bug usually bites most in the spring, as our long grey winter begins to release its hold on our region, plants actually find fall to be a better time to transition from container to ground.
In the fall, the heat of summer has passed and watering requirements are lessened as mother nature lends a helping hand with the onset of rains in October and November. The ground is still warm, which allows roots to spread much faster than in the spring. This is especially important for a successful transition from a container to the soil in your yard, giving your new plant two full growing seasons (fall and spring) before the stress of summer's heat and reduced rainfall, and better ensuring it's health for years to come.
Fall foliage and spring color
Swanson's carries a vast selection of plants fresh off the truck during Autumn Project Month. Many shrubs and trees that are grown for their fall color or winter interest are showing off their beauty during this time, so by shopping now you'll see these plants at their best.
Now is also the time to choose your bulbs, which in most cases need to be planted before November for a spectacular burst of color next spring and beyond.
Planning and starting your gardening projects in the fall helps jumpstart a healthier, more beautiful yard in 2015!
